About

Michael McTeague is a Canadian bonsai professional based in Japan. He holds a professional certificate from the Nippon Bonsai Growers Cooperative, earned through five years of intensive study, and trained for over six years at Fujikawa Kouka-en in Osaka under master Keiichi Fujikawa. His training emphasizes traditional Japanese techniques and the disciplined pursuit of balance, elegance, and refinement at the highest level.

Michael works with high level bonsai material while also propagating and developing trees independently, giving him a deep understanding of the entire process from seed to exhibition quality cultivation. Trees he has worked on have been exhibited several times at the Kyoto Taikan-ten Bonsai Exhibition, with multiple receiving recognition. He works internationally to support and mentor enthusiasts through private coaching, workshops, and hands on collection development, and also assists clients abroad in sourcing high quality bonsai material within Japan. His focus is on sustainable cultivation and long term refinement of temperate deciduous and coniferous species.
